So, I want to talk about something that needs to be addressed… bathroom breaks and how they relate to you massage session.
We’ve been taught as a society to ask permission to go to the bathroom. Remember in school you raised your hand, waiting for the teacher to say yes or no. And for some of us, that wasn’t a great experience. For some it can bring back childhood trauma around using the restroom in a public setting.
Here’s the thing, you don’t need permission from me nor anyone to use the restroom.
If you need to go to the bathroom, you go to the bathroom. Period. That is the end of the discussion.
When you come in for your session whether you're new or returning, Just know the bathroom key is right by the front door. You have easy and secure access (unless someone else is using it). My restrooms are shared with the other tenants of the building, so you’ll need the key to get in. It locks automatically, so you don’t have to worry about that part. If you ever need help finding it, just ask me.
And also during your session, if you need to pause and go to the restroom, that’s completely okay. You don’t need to ask “can I go?” Just let me know when you need a bathroom break.
This is your time. Your comfort matters. PLEASE do not hold it. "Holding It" can cause UTI's and other future health related issues.
I also want to acknowledge that some people have anxiety or negative past experiences around public restrooms. If that’s you, just tell me what you need. If you need me to stand nearby so you feel safe, I will absolutely do that. No judgment.
I do recommend going before your session and after your session. This helps your body relax and not feel like you have to hold it. Holding it in creates tension, and that’s the opposite of what we’re doing here.
The restrooms are checked regularly. I make sure they’re clean, stocked, and comfortable to use.
Also, side note for the ladies: I try to keep things like menstrual products on hand, because sometimes your body does what it does during a session. Totally normal.
And just to say it plainly, your body releasing and eliminating is normal, human process. Urination, bowel movements, and farts (unless you're being facetious) are normal. Sometimes your system just lets go when it finally relaxes. That’s part of the process. There’s nothing embarrassing about that.
This is a safe space. You are not inconveniencing me by taking care of your body and needs.
When you arrive, I do ask that you come about 10 minutes early so that gives you time to settle in, use the restroom, grab some water, tea, or coffee, and just ease into the session. I build in a little buffer so you’re not rushed. This is part of self care.
At the end of the day, this is your time to relax not to feel stressed, rushed, or like you have to hold anything in.
So again — no permission needed.
If you need to go… you go.
With care and support,
Suzan Walker LMT
