Being Present During Your Massage: Reconnecting to Better Serve You

Massage therapy is more than technique. It is presence, awareness, connection, and intention.

Recently, I attended a Lomi Lomi training that reminded me of something deeply important: before we can truly connect with others, we first have to reconnect with ourselves.

Over time, many therapists are taught to separate themselves emotionally and energetically from their clients. While healthy boundaries are absolutely important, I’ve come to understand that healing also requires presence. Clients can feel when their therapist is grounded, attentive, and genuinely connected during the session.

When we slow down and become fully present, the body responds differently.

My approach to massage therapy is rooted in mindfulness, nervous system awareness, and intentional touch. Whether through therapeutic massage, Craniosacral Therapy, Myofascial Release, or energy-based work such as Reiki, the goal is not to force the body yet instead to listen to it.

The work I provide is assertive, not aggressive massage therapy work.

That means I work with intention and depth while still honoring your nervous system, your comfort level, and your body’s natural ability to unwind and heal. Deep work does not have to feel punishing to be effective. Sometimes the most profound releases happen when the body feels safe enough to let go.

During your session, you may notice rhythmic breathing, slower flowing movements, moments of stillness, or techniques that encourage the body to soften rather than resist. Some clients fall asleep. Some experience emotional release. Some simply feel a sense of peace they haven’t felt in a long time.

All of those experiences are welcome.

This experience has reminded me of the importance of reconnecting with myself outside the treatment room. Music, movement, breath, grounding practices, and mindfulness help me become more centered so I can better serve the people who trust me with their care.

Healing is not just physical. It can also be emotional, energetic, and deeply human.

Many traditional and indigenous healing philosophies teach that everything is connected. Our bodies, the air that we breathe, our emotions, spirit, the earth, and the people around us are all interconnected. While I always strive to approach these teachings with humility and respect, I believe there is wisdom in remembering that we were never meant to function completely disconnected from ourselves or each other. It's time to re-connect and get back into touch with ourselves, with other and nature.

My intention is to create a calming space where you feel supported, respected, grounded, and safe enough to reconnect with your body in whatever way you need during that moment.

Because healing begins not when we force the body to change but when we finally allow ourselves to slow down enough to listen. Being present is one of the many things we can do to heal ourselves.
