Why Commitment Matters When Scheduling Your Massage Session

My business is by appointment only, and majority of appointments are scheduled in advance. New session appointments may be booked up to one month ahead. Because appointment availability is limited, there are often returning clients, referrals, and individuals on a waiting list seeking those same dates and times.
Returning and established clients are given scheduling priority. These long-term therapeutic relationships are built on consistency, trust, and mutual respect.
When you schedule an appointment, that time is reserved exclusively for you. Holding an appointment with the intention of possibly canceling later, continuing to search for another therapist, or treating the appointment as a placeholder may unintentionally prevent another client from receiving care they have been waiting for. Also this will prevent you from scheduling future appointments with me.
Life happens. Family emergencies, illness, and unexpected situations do occur. I understand this, and I strive to be flexible whenever possible particularly with established clients who have demonstrated reliability over time. However, repeated uncertainty, last-minute changes, or difficulty committing to scheduled appointments may indicate that my business is not the best fit for your current needs.
If I become aware that an appointment is being held while alternative providers are being sought, or if there is uncertainty about keeping the appointment before it is even secured, I may choose, at my discretion, not to schedule or continue scheduling future appointments with you. This decision is not personal. It is simply part of maintaining fairness and availability for clients who are actively seeking care and ready to commit to their sessions.
This is one reason I require appointments to be secured with a credit card or prepaid in advance. These policies are not intended as a punishment; they exist to respect everyone's time and to maintain a professional practice. Similar policies are common in medical offices, chiropractic clinics, and many massage therapy practices.
When you schedule an appointment, I make a commitment to show up fully present for you to answer questions, prepare for your session, and support you on your path toward healing and renewal. In return, I ask for the same commitment from my clients.
Not every therapist is the right fit for every person, and that is perfectly okay. You have the right to find the therapist who best suits your needs, and I also have the right to maintain a business built upon mutual respect, professional courtesy, and honoring the time of all clients.
If you're uncertain about whether you'll be able to keep an appointment, I kindly ask that you wait to schedule until you're ready to commit. This helps ensure that appointment times remain available for those actively seeking care.
Respect for time is respect for healing for yourself, for your therapist, and for every client waiting for care.
Thank you,
Suzan Walker LMT
