Respecting Boundaries: Your Appointment Time and My Time

A client relaxes in the reception area, looking forward to their appointment, as the massage therapist gets the treatment room ready.

A little patience, understanding, and mutual respect go a long way.

Over the years, I've learned that maintaining healthy professional boundaries is important for both my clients and myself.

Before COVID, my office operated differently, with unlocked doors and occasional walk-in visitors. Today, my practice operates strictly by appointment to provide a private, comfortable, and organized environment for everyone.

Being by appointment only also means respecting scheduled appointment times and allowing me the time I need between sessions.

Please Be Mindful of Your Arrival Time

New Clients: Please arrive no sooner than 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

Returning Clients: Please arrive approximately 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

I understand that traffic, work, and everyday responsibilities can be stressful. I generally allow a few minutes for you to settle in and decompress before beginning your session.

However, arriving 15, 20, or 30 minutes early does not mean your appointment will begin early.

If you arrive ahead of schedule, please have a seat and relax while I finish preparing. I will invite you into the treatment room when it is ready.

Please do not enter the treatment room until I've finished cleaning and preparing it.

The Time Between Appointments Is My Time

I intentionally schedule approximately 30 minutes between appointments to allow for cleaning, changing linens, assisting clients who may need additional care, handling payments, and preparing for the next session.

This also allows me time to respond to necessary communications, use the restroom, have a snack, or simply regroup.

I'm detail-oriented, and uninterrupted preparation helps me stay organized and provide you with my full attention.

Just because I'm present doesn't necessarily mean I'm available to begin your session early.

Conversations and Staying on Schedule

I enjoy getting to know my clients and understand that sometimes you have things you'd like to share.

However, lengthy conversations before getting on the massage table can delay your session and affect the rest of my schedule.

Please keep conversations before your session focused on information relevant to your treatment. You're welcome to talk about personal matters during your massage if you wish, provided it doesn't interfere with your care.

If you have time constraints or need an earlier appointment, please plan accordingly when scheduling. Arriving early does not automatically change your appointment time.

A Little Grace Goes Both Ways

I understand that life happens. People run late, get sick, need to reschedule, or occasionally require extra assistance.

I do my best to accommodate those situations when possible, and I ask for the same patience and understanding in return.

As a one-person business, I handle everything from client care to cleaning, scheduling, and daily operations.

Sometimes I may need a few extra minutes to finish helping another client or preparing the room. Please allow me that time without interruptions.

My scheduled time with you is dedicated to you. My time between appointments is dedicated to preparing for you, caring for myself, and keeping my business running smoothly.

Healthy boundaries aren't about being unfriendly or inflexible. They're about maintaining mutual respect and ensuring everyone receives the time, attention, and care they deserve.

Thank you for respecting my time as I respect yours.
