Shoulder stretching and massage | Suzan Walker LMT Arlington, TX

Orthopedic Massage

This massage is essential for anyone experiencing chronic or acute pain, including conditions such as carpal tunnel, knee pain, or lower back discomfort. Orthopedic massage is designed to target musculoskeletal issues, helping to restore range of motion, alleviate tension, and support injury prevention. It can also enhance circulation, improve posture, and promote faster recovery after physical activity or strain.

Orthopedic massage combines elements of light deep tissue work, neuromuscular therapy, and targeted stretching. The strokes are generally quicker than traditional deep tissue techniques, encouraging blood flow to muscle spindles and supporting tissue health. The therapist applies pressure using the palm of the hand and friction-based stripping techniques to identify and release areas of tightness.

When knots or trigger points are located, the therapist applies focused pressure for 2–3 seconds, effectively reducing tenderness and discomfort. Pulsation techniques help manage acute pain, while gentle stretches—held for 2–3 seconds in six intervals—enhance flexibility and muscle balance.

Additional benefits of orthopedic massage include improved joint mobility, reduced inflammation, relief from repetitive strain injuries, and decreased muscle spasms. Regular sessions can also enhance body awareness, reduce stress, and support overall physical performance and long-term musculoskeletal health.
